These two machines answer different annoyances. The Roborock S7 is a vacuum that also mops. Its sonic pad scrubs up to 3,000 times a minute and lifts automatically when it senses carpet. The Shark AV2501AE does not mop at all. Instead it ships with a self-empty base that holds roughly 60 days of debris, which makes it the closest thing to hands-off vacuuming in this pairing.

Where the Roborock S7 wins

Hard floors. If your home is mostly tile, wood or laminate, the S7’s mopping is worth real money, because the vibrating pad applies downward pressure and removes dried-on grime that drag-along pads smear around. VibraRise means you do not have to remove the pad before the robot crosses a rug. The S7 also runs longer per charge, up to about three hours in quiet mode, and its LiDAR mapping is mature, with room-by-room schedules and no-go zones that work in the dark.

The S7’s weakness is upkeep. Out of the box you still empty its onboard bin yourself, and its optional auto-empty dock is now hard to find because the machine has left production.

Where the Shark AV2501AE wins

Maintenance. The included base means weeks of not thinking about the robot at all. For a busy household with shedding pets, that single feature usually decides whether a robot vacuum stays in daily use. Its 360 degree laser navigation handles low light well, carpet pickup is strong, and the bagless base with HEPA-grade sealing costs nothing to run because there are no bags to reorder.

The Shark’s weakness is scope. It does not mop, and its runtime is shorter than the S7’s.

At today’s prices

This comparison changed shape in mid-2026 when the Roborock S7 left production. Its side of the ledger is now leftover and open-box stock priced on clearance logic. The Shark AV2501AE remains a current model, though our tracked first-party seller currently shows it out of stock. Check both product pages for today’s live rows before deciding. With one machine discontinued and the other between stock, patience is a reasonable strategy, and both pages point to successor models.

The honest bottom line

Neither machine is better in the abstract. If your floors are mostly hard, or mopping interests you at all, the S7 is the stronger fit. If your floors are mostly carpet and you never want to empty a dustbin, the Shark is the stronger fit. If you find leftover S7 stock priced like the end-of-life machine it is, mopping still argues for it, because you can add a dock later but you can never add a mop to the Shark. At anything near current-model money, buy a current model instead.
